New Patient Questions & Answers

Fertility Patient
Explain the process involved in IVF. How long will it take? Is it painful?
During a normal menstrual cycle, a woman grows many eggs. These eggs "compete" to determine which one will be ovulated. With IVF, we want to grow many eggs but not allow that competition to happen. This process ensures all of the eggs "win" and allow us to make as many embryos as possible, thus increasing our odds of getting you pregnant. Once the eggs are grown, we retrieve them through a painless procedure and fertilize them in our lab. The embryo is put back into the uterus 3-5 days later. The entire process takes about 2 1/2 weeks.
Are the fertility doctors on staff Board-Certified Reproductive Endocrinologists?
Board-certification in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility is absolutely essential for a physician to call himself a "specialist." BostonIVF - The Arizona Center's physicians are board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.
Is your fertility clinic a member of SART?
Yes. CLICK HERE to visit SART's website.
Will I see the same fertility doctor throughout the course of my fertility treatment?
Unless an unforseen circumstance arises, you will always see the same fertility doctor.
How can I contact the doctor or fertility clinic during my treatment if I have a question?
During business hours, you may call the office at 480-559-0252. After hours, there is always someone on call should you have questions or concerns.
Do you have any age limits on fertility treatments?
No. We don't make generalizations about age, but we determine what will be safe and have the best chance of pregnancy on a case by case basis.
What procedures do you offer and how often do you perform them?
Please see our AFFORDABLE FERTILITY SOLUTIONS page for more information. All services are performed on a routine basis.
How many eggs will you take at one time?
The number of eggs produced will vary between women, but we take all of the eggs produced during a cycle. This will not alter the lifetime number of eggs a woman has left.
Can we choose whether or not we have a boy or a girl?
Absolutely. By sampling chromosomes in the embyo, we can select the sex of your child with 100% accuracy. Additionally, we test all chromosomes to eliminate the chance of abnormalities.
Do children born through IVF have a higher chance of abnormalities?
At BostonIVF - The Arizona Center, we test all chromosomes to eliminate chances of abnormalities. As far as research goes, studies on this subject vary and after thousands of IVF births, there is still no definitive answer. It would appear that IVF babies do not have a higher chance of abnormalities.
How often does fertility treatment lead to pregnancy? How often does it lead to live birth?
"Fertility treatment" is a broad term encompassing several methods, each of which has its own statistics for pregnancy rate. The IVF pregnancy rate is about 50% and at BostonIVF - The Arizona Center, our live birth rate is 90%.
What is the chance I will have twins after fertility treatments? Triplets?
Twins occur at a rate of about 30% and we have one instance of triplets every 2 years
Are ectopic pregnancies more common with IVF?
Ectopic pregnancies are common in many fertility clinics, but our advanced technology makes this worry a thing of the past.
Do I have to be extra careful after the transfer to insure it's implantation?
We offer a non-burdonsome, stress free atmosphere and we encourage patients to resume normal activities after the transfer. Maintaining life as normal keeps stress levels down which contributes to our high pregnancy rate.
Is it a good idea to freeze eggs for use at a later time?
Yes. We may keep ourselves healthy and fit but our bodies do not stop aging. No matter how well she eats, or how much exercise she gets, a woman's eggs get older and less effective. Freezing your eggs at a young age will preserve them at that point in your biological age so they will be healthy and young at whatever point in life you decide to start a family.
What happens to our frozen embryos if one or both of us die or if we get a divorce?
Frozen embryos become community property and will be willed accordingly. It is advised you add them to any wills, trusts or marital agreements.
How do you keep track of /store your embryos so I can be sure they are mine?
Unlike other facilities, we have a unique tracking and photo id system to ensure no mix-up ever occurs.
How many embryos are implanted during an IVF cycle?
To ensure pregnancy, many factors go into this decision, but we always minimize the risk of multiple births to protect the health of the offspring.
Does ovarian stimulation result in early menopause?
No. We only take the eggs that are going to be "thrown away" which will not change your menopause. In fact, with BostonIVF's advanced technologies, we can determine your age of menopause with a high degree of accuracy.
Are hormone treatments potentially harmful to me or the future child?
In some clinics, cavalier use of medications can result in injury. At BostonIVF - The Arizona Center, safety is our main concern. With our vast experience and board-certified physicians, your procedure is as safe as any other routine activity.
